Social media has given us a detailed insight into the lives of our friends. However, at what point does it cross the border between comfortable sharing of information and almost voyeuristic obsession with having to know where everyone is at all the time. This is the fine line that is being erased rapidly these days. Snapchat’s latest features, the Snap Map takes it to the next level – giving you an idea of where all your friends are in one single screen.
There have been so many apps which have introduced features inspired from Snapchat. This leaves the company in a desperate need of more and more innovative features. Snapchat toils hard to come out with these features which are almost ripped off by larger apps who take away some of their users. The latest innovation from Snapchat comes in the form of the Snap Map.
Social Media platforms have been trying to introduce features that let you know where your friends are all the time – the Facebook ‘nearby friends’ feature is one such instance. Snapchat’s Snap Map functions on a similar logic, except it lets you know where all your friends are, at once. Users can simply pinch in or pinch out of the map to zoom in and out and get to see the exact location of their friends on the map.
It is not compulsory for all users to share their location and they can choose to not share details by using the Ghost Mode. On the Snap Map, you can see all your friends. Tapping on their name will open their Snap Stories. The basic idea is that you will be able to see where your friends are and what they’re up to, so that you too can join them if you wish to. Social networks are getting even more social!
