WhatsApp Now Allowing Sharing of All File Formats

WhatsApp has been among the biggest names when it comes to the world of communication technology. The company has, in a short span of time, almost killed the text messaging service. With over a billion users under their belt, the app keeps updating itself from time to time. The latest such update now involves sharing of files. Starting today, users will be able to share files of all formats using the app.

The update that allows users to share documents over the app was introduced a while ago, and was welcomed with open arms. This made sharing of files very convenient for users. However, the biggest problem was that only a limited number of file formats were supported. WhatsApp used to support only formats like csv, doc, docx, pdf, ppt, pptx, rtf, txt, xls, xlsx and similar. However, after today’s update, all file formats will be supported.

In the past there were third party tools which needed to be installed on both, the senders and the receivers device which would allow them to share all file formats via WhatsApp, but following this new update they would no longer require them and would be able to do so from the app itself, officially. This is a very popular update, however it comes with some restrictions.

  • iOS users would be able to transfer files of any format up to 128 MB.
  • Android users would be bale to transfer files of any format up to 100 MB.
  • Users on PC/web version would be able to transfer files up to 64 MB.

The update has started rolling out for WhatsApp users on iOS, Android as well as Windows Phone devices but reports reveal that this update will be painfully slow and might take a long while to reach all users. This is indeed a really cool feature from Facebook-owned WhatsApp.
