Fitbit is one of the biggest names when it comes to wearable healthcare technology. The company has been coming out with a number of fitness tracking devices over the years and are now working on taking things to the next level. Last year the company acquired Pebble and shut down their future plans. It was clear that they were working on a Fitbit smartwatch plan. The first ever smartwatch from the company has now been announced, the Fitbit Ionic.
Fitbit Ionic: First Ever Fitbit Smartwatch
The Fitbit Ionic smartwatch comes out into the markets with a LCD touchscreen display. The primary focus of this Fitbit smartwatch is - you guessed it - focus on fitness! The Fitbit Ionic features a number of fitness-related functions. Let us take a quick look at what the watch offers:

- Swim Exercise Mode
- Heart Rate Tracking
- Sensors for blood oxygen levels
- Payments via FitbitPay
The Fitbit Ionic offers an incredible 4 day battery life on a single charge. The watch comes with GPS support, as well as support for smartphone notifications. Users will be able to get call, text and calendar alerts on their watch. App notifications too are supported. The Fitbit Ionic smartwatch runs on the Fitbit OS, which has been designed for Fitbit smartwatches - hinting that Fitbit does have more watches lined up for future.
It comes with an app gallery that comes with a number of apps, most of them fitness oriented. A number of clock faces are also available in the gallery. This Fitbit smartwatch is the first ever Fitbit product that has been developed fully in-house.
The Fitbit Ionic is already available for pre-orders for $299.95 and will be commercially available starting October. Fitbit has also announced the following accessories:
- Classic accessories in blue gray with silver gray buckle, charcoal with smoke gray buckle, and slate blue with burnt orange buckle - $29.95
- Two-toned breathable Sport Band accessories in blue gray and coral, black and charcoal, or cobalt and lime - $29.95
- Hand-crafted and perforated Horween leather accessories in cognac and midnight blue - $59.95
