Microsoft, the technology giant is now collaborating with Liebherr household appliances to build a new generation of SmartDeviceBox. The communication module will be fitted into the refrigerators and freezers, connecting them with the internet,  T JHazen, Principal Data Scientist-Manager at Microsoft said in a recent blog.

With the help of this SmartDeviceBox, the future Liebherr refrigerators will be providing Brilliant food management technology. All of the grocery placed in the refrigerators can be monitored using the internal camera and object recognition technology. By this, the customer can view all the items individually. Also, this information is also available in inventory so the customer can view the items placed in the refrigerator from anywhere, said the blog. Further, the customer can also add items to the list and can access it via an app available on Windows, iOS, and Android devices.

As per the reports, Microsoft stated that the company has built an image processing system to detect specific food items using deep learning system contained in CNTK. Also, this Microsoft’s system help to recognize new objects like Milk Bottles, Ketchup, pickle jars and other items.

“Although the current system is a prototype, the deep learning technology it uses is already very powerful and rapidly maturing. Liebherr and Microsoft are actively improving these technologies to turn the newest generation of refrigerators into smart appliances that don’t just cool your food but interactively help you with your food management”, the blog added.
