Nokia has been among the biggest names when it comes to the world of mobile phone technology. The company has had quite an impact in the world of feature phones and are now a major player in the smartphone markets too, as they have returned to the markets this year. Today, Nokia confirmed that all their existing smartphones would be getting the Android Oreo update - including their most basic smartphone, the Nokia 3.

In the past there was some speculation if the Nokia 3 would be getting the Android Oreo update from Nokia. However the company put the speculations to rest today as HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas confirmed this news on Twitter. It was widely anticipated that the Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 were certainly getting the update while the Nokia 5 was also a possibility. However doubts over the Nokia 3 smartphone getting the update too have been cleared.

HMD Global is working on the development of this OS for their phones alongside Google and hopefully the update will come shortly. As of now we do not have any information on when the Android Oreo update will actually start rolling out for the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 devices but we expect at least the Nokia 8 smartphone to get the update before the end of the year.

Google has been working on Project Treble, which will help devices running Android Oreo get future updates at a faster pace than before. This feature is likely to be brought into the HMD Global manufactured phones which will ensure that the future updates are faster. However for now it is the Android Oreo update and it is confirmed for all Nokia devices.

In addition to Nokia, the Android Oreo update has also been confirmed for the HTC 10, HTC U11 and HTC U11 Ultra. The Android Oreo update has also been confirmed for the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5 smartphones. Stay tuned with us for more details on this gen-next Android OS.
