Android O to be the Last Major OS Update for OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3

Everyone is waiting for the upcoming Android O OS update eagerly. However, for some devices, this will come out as the last major OS update. It was already known that this is the last major OS update for almost all the Nexus branded devices. OnePlus has now stated that this will also be the last Android OS update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones.

While the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T would both have received 2 major OS updates by the time they get the Android O update, it still seems quite early to many users. The users of the OnePlus 3T in particular are a little disheartened as the phone has only been around for like nine months. OnePlus would still be offering the users with regular security patches.

The Android O OS update being the last OS update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T was confirmed by the company itself. Oliver Z, the Head of Product for OnePlus confirmed this news. He said: Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OP3/3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates.

Optimistic users of these OnePlus smartphones have said that Oliver’s statement includes the line ‘for the foreseeable future’. This means that there’s still hope that they may release more updates in the future. However, for now it seems like Android O is the end of the road as the company gives their undivided focus to the OnePlus 5 and the development of their 2018 flagship.

The Android O OS is expected to come out in mid August, with a possible release date expected to be the 21st of August - the day of the solar eclipse. Stay tuned with us for more updates on the Android OS and OnePlus smartphones.
