There’s a lot of buzz and anticipation in the air when it comes to Google’s gen-next Android smartphones, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. These phones are all set to release on the 4th of October as the successor to last years’ Pixel and Pixel XL devices. Last week we saw the devices leak in various color variants. This week, the specifications of the phones have been spotted.

Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have been spotted on Android Authority where the specifications of the two devices have leaked. The website claims they have access to an internal source in Google who has provided this leaked info. Let us take a closer look at what we know about the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL so far.

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Specifications

Google’s gen-next XL smartphone, the Pixel 2 XL comes out into the markets with a curved OLED display. Current indications point at the phone coming out with a 5.5 inched display, along with a Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The regular sized Pixel 2 would come out with a 5 inched display.

Most interestingly, the leaks indicate that the larger of the two gen-next Pixel smartphones from Google will sport a display which will feature an 85% body to screen ratio - possibly hinting at a 2:1 aspect ratio. Reportedly, the phone is expected to come out into the markets with slim bezels on the sides.

Moreover, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will also feature dual stereo speakers which will ensure the audio on the phone is loud, clear and comfortable. However, Google will be giving up on the 3.5mm jack this year. The USB Type-C headphones will be coming only to limited regions while other regions would get a Type-C to 3.5mm converter.

The Google Pixel 2 as well as Pixel 2 XL will both run on the Android O OS out of the box. They are both expected to get the Android P and Android Q OS updates. The phones will continue getting regular Android Security Patches too, similar to the current generation of Pixel smartphones.

Moreover, the Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL would provide the users with unlimited Google Cloud Storage till 2023. Last year with the Pixel smartphones, Google offered unlimited storage when it comes to original sized photographs. This year, it is going to be unlimited storage for all files.

While not much has been revealed about the gen-next cameras on the Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, it is known that the phones will not feature dual cameras. It will be one camera on the front and one on the back. The Pixel 2 will be powered by a 2700mAh battery while the larger, Google Pixel 2 will run on a 3520mAh battery.

Finally this year, both the phones will be IP67 water and dust resistant which was a major feature missing from last years’ Google Pixel smartphones. Interestingly, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will feature an ‘Active Edge’ on the side - which is a squeezable edge similar to the one on the HTC U11 earlier this year.

Stay tuned with us for more details on the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL as we draw closer to the launch date. Less than a week remains now!
