Huawei remains as the solid candidate to build the rumored Nexus 7 2016 tablet by Google that on release date will be branded as Pixel 7 or Pixel 7P. The 7-inch slate with 2K display is packed with Snapdragon 820 chip and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of on-board memory, reports said.
Pocket Lint is convinced that as Google tapped HTC to manufacture the Nexus 2016 smartphones that will be labelled Pixel when unboxed, it is Huawei that secured the Nexus tablet project. The report recalled that one senior Huawei executive had accidentally revealed that “we’re doing the Nexus again this year.”
The slip was also referring to the phablet Nexus 6P of last year and fired up rumors that a Nexus 6P 2016 was in the works. But as HTC emerged as the next Nexus phone maker, the rumors shifted to a Stock Android tablet that Huawei will deliver to Google.
The possibility is there that HTC’s Nexus 2016 is patterned after the 6P that Android fans have been visualizing the Nexus 7 as a scaled up take on the 6P with premium build and design and high-end inside specifications.
But as the rumors of Nexus to be rebranded as Pixel gained traction, the same Pocket Lint report suggested that Google could unpack the device as Pixel 7 or Pixel 7P. The latter name was hinted by a supposed patent application filed by Huawei in recent months.
As for the key specifications, Slash Gear reported that the 7-inch Nexus or Pixel tab will render in 2K screen resolution and will have a main shooter that boasts of 13-megapixel sensor. Baked in with the device is the combo of SD 820 and 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage. The latter should be welcome as the Nexus is known to be without memory expansion.
And the highlight of the Nexus 7 or Pixel 7P is the latest Android version that on the device will be Android 7.1 Nougat. The Google mobile OS will dress up the device with exclusive or Nexus-only features such Nexus Launcher and an animated Home key that highlights the fresh Google Search and Now on Tap features.
Google is rumored to finally reveal the Nexus 7 2016 or Pixel 7/7P this coming October with the release date to follow immediately.
